A New Play in Progress

What happens when you're queer at a Christian university infamous for its policies against LGBTQ+ students? Gay on God’s Campus is a new play in progress, created by the cast and based on the true stories of LGBTQ+ students at Trinity Western University. This co-production between Dark Glass Theatre and One TWU has been over a year in the making, bringing these lived experiences to the stage in an honest, irreverent, and raw performance.

The Story Doesn't End Here

This wasn’t a finished product. Gay on God’s Campus is an evolving work that invites you, the final cast member, into the process. Each performance included a post-show talkback, where audience members can engage with the cast, ask questions, share reflections, and be part of a larger conversation about faith, identity, and belonging.

Why This Matters

For years, Trinity Western University made headlines for its community covenant and legal battles over its proposed law school. But the real stories are those of the students who lived through it—those who navigated the tension between their faith and their identity in a place that often refused to make space for both. Gay on God’s Campus brings these voices forward, not as news stories or debates, but as lived experiences that deserve to be heard.

Content Advisory

This production contains mature language and themes. While we believe it is appropriate for audiences at a high school level and above, we recognize that each person must make their own decision about attendance.

The stories shared in this performance are drawn from true, lived experiences. They are not presented for shock value or sensationalism, but rather as a reflection of the complexities of the human experience—its beauty, its struggles, its despair, and its hope.

As Shakespeare’s Hamlet reminds us, the purpose of theatre is to hold a “mirror up to nature,” revealing truths about our world. We invite you to engage with open hearts and minds, set aside preconceived notions or judgements, and receive these stories as windows into lives that may be different from your own—or perhaps, more familiar than expected.

About the Title

Our production shares its title with the book Gay on God's Campus: Mobilizing for LGBT Equality at Christian Colleges and Universities by Jonathan S. Coley. A sociologist, Coley documents why and how student activists create greater inclusion at Christian colleges and universities. We encourage you to check out his book, and are grateful to the author for granting us permission to use his title.
